Pressed Steel Suburban Single Car Class 121 DMU 55033 in Midline livery heads a Dorridge train while Gloucester Class 122 Single Car 55005 arrives with a Leamington train on the adjacent platform at Birmingham Moor Street on 13 May 1987. At the time single cars were being added to 3-car sets to raise the power to weight ratio. Moor St terminus closed in September 1987 when the adjacent through platforms to Birmingham Snow Hill were opened. It lay derelict until 2003 when Chiltern Railways reopened two of the original three platforms and renovated the original booking hall to supplement capacity when the Bull Ring development opened. The building under construction is the Pavillions Shopping Centre which was recently rebuilt as the largest Primark store in Europe. Chris Morrison.
This is a shot from the car park at Birmingham Moor Street which I took on 29 July 1987 showing a class 116 through a 200mm lens approaching the station with a train from Leamington Spa. I don't much like the over-use of long lenses but the compressed perspective does work well in some locations with an interesting background. The line to the left is that going to Handsworth, then just a truncated branch line used by a few trip freights but in 2021 is the two-track main line between Birmingham Snow Hill and Worcester. Peter Tandy.

Moor Street nocturne, 24/9/1987. Class 116 dmus wait to work services to Dorridge and Shirley from the terminal platforms at Birmingham Moor St which were due to close in two days. The platform shown is still not in use but 23 years on the other 2 were reopened. Stephen Burdett.
Confession time at Moor Street. The last day of services at the old Birmingham Moor Street on 26/9/87 sees a class 116 dmu being confronted by sobering posters. The end was not in sight however as 23 years later the terminal platforms reopened to great purpose! Stephen Burdett.
